Golf in Scotland
The Ayrshire coastline boasts some of the finest golf courses in the world. These hallowed links courses provide a true golfing challenge, with undulating fairways, the famous gorse (not to mention the Famous Grouse) and sandy dunes, all set against the sensational views over Ailsa Craig and the Isle of Arran.
Prestwick Golf Club hosted the first ever Open Championship in 1860 – back in the days when it was 12 holes and did not even have a clubhouse – and it last hosted the event in 1925. In recent years, Turnberry’s Ailsa Course and Royal Troon have hosted this prestigious event between them over a dozen times.

Play Links Golf can also offer you a taster of Ayrshire’s “hidden gems”, such as the Irvine Golf Club and Kilmarnock Barassie. Despite also being local qualifying Open Championship venues, they are perhaps less frequented on the fairways than their more famous neighbours, but we think you will be amazed at the quality and diversity of the stay and play golf packages on Ayrshire’s Golf Coast.
